STEP 1
Hold a Learner’s Licence
You must hold a valid learner’s licence for at least one year (some sources note you can become exam-eligible at ~10 months)
STEP 2
Complete the Driving Course
Finish all phases of an SAAQ-recognized course—both theory and in-car practical components.
STEP 3
Pass the Theoretical Exam
Book and pass the SAAQ knowledge test (typically available after ~10 months with a learner’s licence).
STEP 4
Pass the Practical Road Test
Schedule your SAAQ road test and pass.
STEP 5
Visit an SAAQ Service Centre
After passing required exams and completing the course, visit SAAQ with your documents and fees for verification.
STEP 6
Receive Your Probationary Licence
Your probationary licence (valid 2 years) is issued to the home address you provided. You can now drive solo, subject to restrictions below.

Documents You Must Bring
Proof of successful course completion
After Completing all 4 phases of your course driving school provides you a completion cerificate for SAAQ.
Proof of residence
if your address isn’t shown on your IDs. You can use any address proof as long as you have a name on it like wifi bill, Hydro bill etc.
Learner’s licence
Learner’s license which shows at least 1 year of validity.
Parental/guardian authorization
If you are under 18 years old. You need an authorization from your parents or your guardian.
